Quiet moves

Winning moves that are not checks or captures, and in-between moves instead of automatic recaptures. This is a tactics course with 8 lessons and 60 interactive exercises, suited to players rated around 1400 (club players). Every exercise is played on a real board with feedback after each move, there is nothing to install, and it is free.

Lessons in Quiet moves

  1. In-between moves – Before you recapture by reflex, look for a stronger move in between (the German zwischenzug): a check or a threat first, the recapture later.
  2. Quiet killers – No check, no capture: the winning move is a quiet one that creates a threat the opponent cannot meet.
  3. Quiet killers, part 2 – No check, no capture: the winning move is a quiet one that creates a threat the opponent cannot meet. More positions, a little harder.
  4. Quiet killers, part 3 – No check, no capture: the winning move is a quiet one that creates a threat the opponent cannot meet. More positions, a little harder.
  5. In-between moves, part 2 – Before you recapture by reflex, look for a stronger move in between (the German zwischenzug): a check or a threat first, the recapture later. More positions, a little harder.
  6. Quiet killers, part 4 – No check, no capture: the winning move is a quiet one that creates a threat the opponent cannot meet. More positions, a little harder.
  7. Quiet killers, part 5 – No check, no capture: the winning move is a quiet one that creates a threat the opponent cannot meet. More positions, a little harder.
  8. Mixed practice – All the ideas of this course, mixed: find the winning move without knowing the motif.
