Richter-Veresov Attack: Boyce Defense is a chess opening with the ECO code D01, part of the Richter-Veresov Attack family. It goes 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Bg5 Ne4. White opens with 1. d4 (the queen's pawn) and Black answers 1... Nf6. After 6 moves it is White to move. The moves
1. d4 – White plays the pawn to d4
1... Nf6 – Black plays the knight to f6
2. Nc3 – White plays the knight to c3
2... d5 – Black plays the pawn to d5

About the Richter-Veresov Attack
White plays 1.d4, 2.Nc3 and 3.Bg5, developing pieces fast and aiming for e4. It is an offbeat system that avoids main theory.
White wants f3 and e4 to build a big centre.
Bxf6 can double Black's pawns.
The c3 knight blocks the c-pawn, so Black can hit back with ...c5.
