Hungarian Opening: Reversed Modern Defense is a chess opening with the ECO code A00, part of the Hungarian Opening family. It goes 1. g3 d5 2. Bg2 c5. White opens with 1. g3 (the King's fianchetto) and Black answers 1... d5. After 4 moves it is White to move. The moves
1. g3 – White plays the pawn to g3
1... d5 – Black plays the pawn to d5
2. Bg2 – White plays the bishop to g2
2... c5 – Black plays the pawn to c5
About the Hungarian Opening
White starts with 1.g3 to fianchetto the bishop at once. It is flexible and can transpose to the English, Réti or King's Indian Attack.
Bg2 controls the long diagonal and the centre from afar.
White chooses c4, d4 or e4 later, depending on Black's setup.
Black can grab the centre with ...d5 and ...e5; White then hits it.
