This is a tactics course with 9 lessons and 60 interactive exercises, suited to players rated around 1400 (club players). Every exercise is played on a real board with feedback after each move, there is nothing to install, and it is free.

Lessons in Deflection and decoy

  1. Removing the defender – If a piece or a square is guarded only once, take the guard and it falls.
  2. Deflection – A defender with an important job can be dragged away: give it something it must take or block, and the square it guarded is yours.
  3. Deflection, part 2 – A defender with an important job can be dragged away: give it something it must take or block, and the square it guarded is yours. More positions, a little harder.
  4. Removing the defender, part 2 – If a piece or a square is guarded only once, take the guard and it falls. More positions, a little harder.
  5. Decoys – A decoy sacrifice drags a piece, usually the king, onto a square where a check, a fork or mate is waiting.
  6. Removing the defender, part 3 – If a piece or a square is guarded only once, take the guard and it falls. More positions, a little harder.
  7. Overloading – An overloaded piece has two jobs at once. Make it do one of them, and the other is left undone.
  8. Decoys, part 2 – A decoy sacrifice drags a piece, usually the king, onto a square where a check, a fork or mate is waiting. More positions, a little harder.
  9. Decoys, part 3 – A decoy sacrifice drags a piece, usually the king, onto a square where a check, a fork or mate is waiting. More positions, a little harder.
