Give the b-pawn against the Giuoco Piano (4.b4!) to gain c3 and d4 with tempo: a big centre, open lines against f7 and a lead in development. This is a intermediate opening course for White (ECO C51), written for players rated around 1300. Each move is explained and then drilled on a board; it is free.
Key ideas of Evans Gambit
4.b4 deflects the c5 bishop: after ...Bxb4 c3 the bishop must move again and d4 follows.
Your targets are f7 and the black king in the centre: Bc4, Qb3, O-O, Rd1 or Re1.
Against ...Ba5, Qb3 and dxe5 keep the pressure; against ...Be7, d4, and after ...Na5 Be2 keeps the bishop.
If Black declines with ...Bb6, a4 gains queenside space and Nc3-d5 hits the b6 bishop.
The line trainer
The line trainer for Evans Gambit has 50 lines that grow out of 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. b4, learned a few new ones a day with spaced-repetition review.
