Lessons in Sacrifices on the king

  1. Sacrifices on the h-file – Give up a piece on the h-file to open it: a rook or queen arriving on the open file next to the castled king is often deadly (on the a-file when the king castled long).
  2. Sacrifices around the king – When the king's shelter is thin, a piece sacrifice next to it can decide the game. Count the attackers that follow up before you let the piece go.
  3. Sacrifices around the king, part 2 – When the king's shelter is thin, a piece sacrifice next to it can decide the game. Count the attackers that follow up before you let the piece go. More positions, a little harder.
  4. Sacrifices around the king, part 3 – When the king's shelter is thin, a piece sacrifice next to it can decide the game. Count the attackers that follow up before you let the piece go. More positions, a little harder.
  5. Sacrifices around the king, part 4 – When the king's shelter is thin, a piece sacrifice next to it can decide the game. Count the attackers that follow up before you let the piece go. More positions, a little harder.
  6. Sacrifices on the h-file, part 2 – Give up a piece on the h-file to open it: a rook or queen arriving on the open file next to the castled king is often deadly (on the a-file when the king castled long). More positions, a little harder.
  7. Sacrifices around the king, part 5 – When the king's shelter is thin, a piece sacrifice next to it can decide the game. Count the attackers that follow up before you let the piece go. More positions, a little harder.
