Lessons in Quick practice: king and pawn

  1. The rule of the square – Can the king catch a running pawn? Draw a square and you know at once.
  2. King in front of the pawn – When the enemy king is close, the pawn needs its own king to escort it.
  3. Key squares and the opposition – Two ideas decide most king-and-pawn endings.
