Lessons in Capturing pieces
Taking pieces – You capture by moving onto a square where an enemy piece stands. The captured piece leaves the board.
Spot the capture – Now there are kings on the board, as in a real game. Look for pieces you can take.
Protected pieces – A piece is protected when one of its friends could capture back.
Next steps
How the pieces move – Meet the six pieces one by one: rook, bishop, queen, king, knight and pawn. Move each of them around the board and collect all the stars.
Check, checkmate and stalemate – What check means, the three ways out of it, how a game is won by checkmate, and the stalemate trap that turns a win into a draw.
